Finding the Motivation

Getting Past Apathy

After the emotional pressure is removed, it may feel like we’ve entered a gray space of apathy. The “why” can fade in importance, leaving us unmotivated. Did we need that angst back? No! We are just at another layer of feelings.

When familiar pushy cues are gone, and apathy shows up, we need to visit the unprocessed emotions that hinder progress. These guys can be tricky because they are gray, “unfelt emotions.” We don’t feel “emotional,” just blah. We may not identify our unwanted behavior or attitude as an emotion, but they are. These behaviors are the outward expression of emotions that have been ignored and left untreated for so long that they have gone underground. Our subconscious keeps track of them and expresses them as behaviors.
